Rochester bridge is the final bridge to cross the River Medway before it flows into the North Sea.

Despite being commonly referred to as a single bridge, the Rochester crossing is in fact made up of three different structures owned by Rochester Bridge Trust – the Old Bridge, the Service Bridge and the New Bridge – and the Network Rail-owned Railway Bridge.

Refurbishment of the Trust’s bridges is currently being carried out under a maintenance contract awarded to FM Conway to ensure the bridges provide a seamless travel experience for all.

Metrail Construction has been awarded the contract to carry out concrete repairs, bridge deck waterproofing and expansion joint replacement.

Martyn Sherwood, Metrail MD, commented that

“As a leading specialist contractor in infrastructure maintenance we are delighted to have been awarded this work on such an important and historical structure”
