Waterproofing

Waterproofing is an essential part in most bridge and rail projects, ensuring longevity and a high endurance for infrastructure assets.

Bridge deck waterproofing

For bridge decks and other concrete service we rely on the GCP ELIMINATOR® waterproofing system, a cold, spray-applied solution that can outlast the life of the structure — reducing future maintenance and associated costs and traffic disruptions. We've developed special spray equipment and use a dual nozzle for an extra efficient application.

Waterproofing of rail structures

A flexible sheet membrane is used for the protection of rail structures. As a licensed GCP contractor, we use the HYTEC system, a loose laid sheet waterproofing. HYTEC is fast to apply, offers high tear and puncture resistance for long lasting protection and weather tolerance to allow year round application.

Metrail carried out waterproofing in these projects:

  • In six month time and two phases, Metrail carried out extensive refurbishment works on one of London's most important bridges. The works included waterproofing 10,000m2 with GCP ELIMINATOR® as well as concrete repairs.

  • Utilising an eight-week closure Metrail employed a joint planer, Eliminator waterproofing, fast-setting R2 and R4 materials, and two different types of joints to replace waterproofing and the interchange’s 20 bridge joints.

  • With the three road bridges of the Rochester Bridge in need of major refurbishment, Metrail carried out concrete repairs on all three bridges as well as expansion joint replacement and bridge deck waterproofing on the Old Bridge and the New Bridge.
