National Highways has appointed Metrail Construction to act as Principal Contractor on the refurbishment of the Alverley Road bridge which crosses the A1(M) in Yorkshire just south of Junction 36.
Area 12, where the bridge is located, is one of the four regions where Metrail has been awarded a 5-year framework contract for waterproofing and expansion joint replacement under National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF).
As an approved installation contractor for the Eliminator waterproofing system and Sentinel expansion joints supplied by GPC (previously Stirling Lloyd) Metrail will be waterproofing over 700m2 of bridge deck and replacing approximately 70m of buried Sentinel B20 expansion joint.
Metrail will carry out any necessary concrete repairs.
In its role as Principal Contractor Metrail will be project managing and co-ordinating a number of other disciplines required for the refurbishment of the bridge including traffic management, deck planing, safety barrier removal, resurfacing and white lining.
Metrail Managing Director, Martyn Sherwood, commented that
“Having been awarded four framework contracts under the National Highways SDF we are pleased to be taking a leading role in rejuvenating Alverley Bridge”
