Metrail Construction enters 2026 with strong momentum following a year of major infrastructure delivery, strategic investment and growing national presence. With a strengthened operational platform, an expanding order book and continued success across National Highways frameworks, the specialist contractor has firmly positioned itself as one of the UK’s leading providers of waterproofing and expansion joint solutions.

Metrail Construction ended 2025 with a strong delivery record across the UK’s strategic infrastructure network, reinforcing its position as a specialist contractor in waterproofing and expansion joint solutions and entering 2026 with a growing and diverse order book. During the year, the company completed a strategic operational review which resulted in the acquisition of a new combined head office and depot facility in Sussex. The modern facility now brings together administrative, commercial and operational teams, improving collaboration, efficiency and customer service while providing capacity for future expansion.

Metrail continued to deliver works under four National Highways framework contracts, successfully completing projects at key structures including Wentbridge Viaduct in Yorkshire, Trench Lane Overbridge on the M4, Newark to Tuxford, and the M62 at Lofthouse. Works included major concrete repairs, waterproofing installations and large-scale expansion joint replacement programmes.

Additional projects during 2025 included ongoing works at the Eurotunnel Depot in Folkestone, specialist waterproofing and joint installation works at the London Stadium, and a full deck refurbishment on New Bath Bridge in Bristol for Walters Group.

In the final quarter of the year, Metrail was appointed by Associated Asphalt to deliver specialist services on the refurbishment of Heathrow Airport’s cargo tunnel. The complex airside project involved resin injection to prevent water ingress, extensive tunnel waterproofing and more than 1,000 metres of buried joint installation. The project was delivered safely and on programme despite the operational constraints of airside working.

Managing Director Martyn Sherwood commented:

“2025 has been an outstanding year for Metrail and our teams. The quality and range of projects we have delivered demonstrates the strength of our people, our systems and our technical capability. The investment in our new Sussex facility has further strengthened our operational platform and positions us extremely well for the years ahead.”

Looking forward, Metrail enters 2026 with a strong pipeline of secured and anticipated work. A key commercial focus will be the next round of National Highways framework contracts, with pre-qualification submissions currently under adjudication. Martyn Sherwood added:

“Framework success is central to our long-term strategy. We remain fully focused on continuing to deliver safe, high-quality and reliable solutions for our clients while building the business in a sustainable and controlled way.”
