Statement from Metrail’s MD Martyn Sherwood

We are very proud that Metrail’s Managing Director, Martyn Sherwood, has been selected by St James’s House to be profiled in the History of Parliament’s upcoming book, ‘300 Years of Leadership and Innovation’.

This publication, which is launching this Wednesday (23rd September 2021), celebrates the best of British leadership, showcasing many figures who have shaped British society, past and present; from Walpole to Cromwell, Churchill to Blair, The Queen and Prince Charles, and moving today’s leading figures in industry – which include Martyn Sherwood.

Martyn has been with Metrail Construction since it’s conception in 2007, starting as the Chief Operating Officer before moving to Managing Director and full company ownership in 2011. He has been the driving force behind the success of the business, making it one of the UK’s leading road infrastructure repair specialists in the industry today. It has been Martyn’s vast knowledge and experience within the sector, combined with his focus on teamwork and innovation, that has allowed Metrail to lead the way with new products, technologies and techniques underpinned by exemplary service delivery. The company is now recognised as one of the leading specialist contractors in the sector with an excellent track record working with tier one contractors for London Underground, NetworkRail and Highways England, and working on major projects such as London Bridge, the Tinsley Viaduct and the M62 Lofthouse Interchange.

When reflecting on some of the biggest challenges facing his industry, Martyn sites recognising the link between innovation and budget challenges as the key to success.

“The budget for infrastructure maintenance in the UK runs into billions of pounds annually and with the current pressure on government budgets, the challenge for the industry is to be as efficient as possible, making use of technology and innovative construction techniques to reduce costs and cut time on site.”

His passion drives him to be on the constant search for new approaches to set Metrail apart from the competition – an approach that has led him further afield to Europe, discovering some new ground-breaking techniques that which have already paid dividends.

Martyn will be attending the launch party for this fantastic publication, which is a collaboration between The History of Parliament Trust and St James’s House , this Wednesday at Westminster Abbey.
