Putney Bridge

“Waterproofing replacement enhances Putney Bridge refurbishment”

Putney Bridge in London is a Grade 2 listed bridge crossing the Thames which has recently undergone extensive renovation to protect it from water penetration.

Metrail Construction was selected by the main contractor F M Conway to carry out the specialist concrete repair work and spraying of the waterproof coatings.

As an approved installation contractor of Stirling Lloyd products (now GCP Applied Technologies), Metrail applied around 4000m2 of the Eliminator waterproofing system and carried out approximately 1000m2 of concrete repair utilising Metaset quick rapid cure concrete.

In addition, Metrail installed 60m of Type 2 plug joints.

Metrail played a key role in delivering the project which enabled the work to be completed and the bridge reopened to traffic two weeks ahead of schedule.

Wandsworth Council project manager Mayrose Page expressed particular satisfaction at the fast track programme achieved by the contractors involved.

On completion of the project, Metrail Manging Director, Martyn Sherwood, commented that “This was a very important project for Metrail on such a historic and important part of London’s infrastructure. We are delighted to have played our part in delivering the project on time and on a budget”
